UMass continues to climb in 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings

The University of Massachusetts?continued its climb into the ranks of the top colleges and universities in the country in the 2021 Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings?released on Wednesday.?UMass is now ranked?60th?among all U.S. institutions, after rising five spots over last year’s rankings, and 30th?among all U.S. public universities. Notably, UMass remains the top public university in New England, a position it has held in the Times Higher Education rankings since 2014.??

The Times Higher Education?World University Rankings?evaluate more than 1,500 universities across 93?countries and regions. The rankings measure each institution’s performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook with 13 performance indicators. The ranking also draws on an annual academic reputation survey, which was carried out between November 2019 and February 2020 with over 10,000 participants. The survey examined the perceived prestige of institutions in teaching and research.??

UMass scored in the top quarter of all five rankings categories, with?particular strength?in the?citations?category.?The university’s?citations data?places emphasis on?the influence and scope of?its research, placing in the top 10% of all institutions.?Industry income and international outlook are also ranked highly.
